TransferLFC Women complete signing of Mao Itamura from Feyenoord
Liverpool FC Women have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Mao Itamura from Feyenoord, subject to visa approval and international clearance.
The 19-year-old makes a permanent switch to the Reds, becoming the fifth addition of the summer to Gareth Taylor’s squad.
A front-footed player with an eye for goal, Itamura joins the club after being named Women’s Eredivisie Player of the Year in 2025-26, scoring eight times last season, alongside six assists.
Her form also helped Feyenoord qualify for European football for the first time in their history.
After putting the final touches on her transfer at the AXA Melwood Training Centre, the attacking midfielder told Liverpoolfc.com: “It’s a league and club that was one of my goals. So, I’m happy to be here.
“When I started playing soccer, one of my goals was to become a professional footballer. When I reached that goal, I wanted to play for my favourite team.
“I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play in Liverpool, a big club.”
A Japan youth international, Itamura began her career in her homeland with JFA Academy Fukushima before making the move to Europe with Feyenoord in January 2025.
In April, she played a key role for her nation as they lifted the U20 Women’s Asian Cup, adding to her international pedigree, having previously featured at both the U17 and U20 Women’s World Cups.
“My strength is dribbling and going all the way to the line,” she added. “I want to show everyone my dribbling skills.
“Of course, I want to make the fans excited with my skills. I also want to contribute to the team with my strengths, goals and assists.”
