Liverpool FC Women recorded an impressive 5-0 win over West Ham United Women on Sunday afternoon at Loughborough University.

Preparations for the looming 2022-23 Barclays Women's Super League campaign continued with goals from Katie Stengel, Shanice van de Sanden and a second-half hat-trick from Leanne Kiernan.

Stengel opened the scoring in the friendly encounter after just 16 minutes in Leicestershire, glancing a Melissa Lawley cross into the far corner of the net.

The Hammers enjoyed little possession in Liverpool's final third and the Reds doubled their advantage nine minutes after the change of ends.

Lawley again crossed into the box from out wide, though it was Van de Sanden who was on hand this time at the back post to head home into an empty net.

Matt Beard's charges were then awarded a penalty following the introduction of Kiernan from the bench, and she added a third after her initial spot-kick was saved by goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold.

The Irish forward grabbed her second of the match just four minutes later, converting Ceri Holland's well-timed cutback from the near byline.

Kiernan then rounded off her hat-trick in style – completing a spell of three goals in eight minutes – thanks to clever work from Emma Koivisto, who delivered low from the right flank to round off proceedings.

Liverpool FC Women: Cumings (Laws, 75), Fahey, Flaherty, Holland, Kearns (Furness, 56), Koivisto, Lawley (Daniels, 71), Matthews (Silcock, 75), Roberts (Campbell, 46), Stengel (Humphrey, 71), Van de Sanden (Kiernan, 56).

Unused substitute: Robe.
