NewsKatie Stengel announces retirement from football
Former Liverpool FC Women forward Katie Stengel has announced her retirement from professional football.
The American joined the Reds in January 2022 and went on to score nine goals in the remainder of that 2021-22 campaign.
Her contribution for Matt Beard’s side helped secure the FA Women’s Championship title and promotion back to the top flight.
In the next season, Stengel supplied 10 goals in 27 appearances as Liverpool consolidated their place in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
She then moved on loan to Gotham FC in the summer of 2023 and the switch became permanent in September that year.
Stengel – now Lampson – represented a host of other clubs across the globe during her career, playing in her home country, Germany, Australia, England and Norway.
After turning out for Wake Forest at college level, she also wore the shirts of Bayern Munich, Washington Spirit, Western Sydney Wanderers, Boston Breakers, Newcastle Jets, Utah Royals, Canberra United, Houston Dash, Valerenga and Crystal Palace.
“I’m proud of all that this career has brought me – the good, the bad, the highs and lows,” said the 34-year-old.
“I’ll always be thankful for the journey and cherish the lessons learned.”
