James Milner can make his 300th appearance for Liverpool this evening when they come up against Rangers at Anfield.

The vice-captain, who arrived in 2015, has made more outings for the Reds than any other club in his career.

Milner played his 50th Champions League game for Liverpool in last month's win over AFC Ajax.

The two clubs are meeting for the first time in European competition. They last met in a friendly at Ibrox in 2011, with Rangers winning 1-0.

Rangers will be the fifth different Scottish team to face Liverpool in Europe following Celtic, Hibernian, Aberdeen and Hearts.

Liverpool have won 12 of their last 15 Champions League group fixtures.

Jürgen Klopp's men have lost only one of their last 16 home Champions League group-stage games and have won each of the last four at this stage on home soil.

The Reds' biggest win over opposition from north of the border came in November 1980 when Aberdeen, managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, were dispatched 4-0 at Anfield in the European Cup.

Roberto Firmino is the club's leading scorer this season and has netted five goals in his last 227 minutes of action at Anfield over the last four games.

In the last Champions League match, Stefan Bajcetic became the youngest player ever to appear for Liverpool in the competition, at the age of 17 years and 326 days.

Rangers winger Ryan Kent made one first-team appearance for the Reds – at Exeter City in a 2-2 draw in the FA Cup back in January 2016.
