Reaction'It was a battle' – Jarell Quansah praises Liverpool mentality in Wolves win
Jarell Quansah praised Liverpool's mentality and battling qualities following Sunday's 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Arne Slot's side were made to work for three more Premier League points at Anfield after opening up a two-goal advantage in the first half.
An effort from Luis Diaz and penalty converted by Mohamed Salah put the Reds firmly in control at the interval.
However, Matheus Cunha's strike in minute 67 saw Liverpool forced to show a different side to their game as they defended resolutely to see out the win.
Quansah - who was introduced from the bench at the beginning of the second half against Wolves - gave his post-match reaction to Liverpoolfc.com.
Read on for his reflections on a hard-fought result…
On the victory...
It was a battle. I think they threw everything they could at us and it's one of those games you have to show your mentality. It's not always going to look perfect, but the scrappy ones are always good when you get the three points.
On being in control of the game at half-time with two goals in the first half...
That's what we planned to do. Thankfully in the first half that's the way it went, and we managed to have a decent lead. Obviously it's a shame we conceded the goal and it's a shame from then on the momentum is probably with them. I thought we handled that very well. The lads who came off the bench I think really helped the game and sometimes you need that. It's definitely a squad game and you need everyone at all times.
On coming on at the interval and being thrown into a competitive game...
I think Ibou [Konate] made a challenge and they turned to me and said to be ready. Obviously as a sub you have to be ready anyway - I always was. I'm just thankful I could help the team.
On what changed in the second half to allow Wolves to get back into the match...
I'd probably have to reflect on the game, but I think I can only speak from when they got their goal. Like I say, it's the momentum. Obviously sometimes it's hard to keep pressing when you know we need the win. It's tough to go all out and I think we know we can defend in the low block and that's what we had to do at times and it worked today.
On finding whatever way is required to win games...
That's it. You have to have so many things in your arsenal to win the Premier League. Being able to do it a nice way and playing football like we want to - but then at the same time showing the ugly side of the game and showing we're capable of doing that. We'll have to do it more and more towards the end of the season. As long as we're ready and we know we can do as we've just shown out there, I think we'll be in good stead.
On his vital block in the Liverpool box towards the end of the game...
It's always good to help the team in that way. I think I'm just doing my job and that's all I have to do. I saw the man behind me and I knew I had to make a challenge. Like I say, the lads off the bench had some crucial [blocks] - probably more crucial than mine to manage momentum. I think we're just thankful we got the three points.
On the three points being important with a busy week ahead...
It's looking more and more that way, especially with the busy schedule. Everyone is going to be needed so we'll see how the games go. The most important thing now is three points and just trying to pick more and more up as the weeks come.
