Florian Wirtz is pleased by his recent goalscoring form for Liverpool and thriving on performing at Anfield.

The No.7 added an assist and goal to his personal statistics to help the Reds beat Newcastle United 4-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.

Wirtz's six goals for the club since joining in the summer have all come in his last 10 appearances.

Speaking after the defeat of the Magpies, he said: "I just enjoy it.

"It's so easy to say but as long as I can help the team win games, I'm happy.

"Then when you can celebrate your own goals, it's always the best."

The Germany international continued: "I always felt good here. I enjoy playing in this stadium with these fans.

"Maybe you connect a little bit better, also with the fans, when they can see that you can score or that you are important for the team.

"I'm just happy to play here in front of the fans."

The clash with Newcastle also saw Hugo Ekitike enhance his status as Liverpool's top scorer so far in 2025-26.

Two emphatically cool finishes in the space of 138 seconds took the striker's tally to 15 and were the catalyst for Arne Slot's side recovering from a goal down.

Wirtz created Ekitike's first of that game and was asked about their link-up generally.

"I think everyone saw again what quality he has, what a great player he already is," he replied.

"He is so fast, has such a good finish and it's just a joy to play with him.

"Not much more to say!"
