Jordan Henderson heaped praise on Liverpool teammate Luis Diaz following Saturday's 2-0 Premier League victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Reds secured another vital three points at the Amex Stadium to keep up the pressure on league leaders Manchester City thanks to goals from Diaz and Mohamed Salah.

The 25-year-old Colombian showed bravery to open the scoring with a header as he nodded past Robert Sanchez before being clattered by the Seagulls goalkeeper.

Salah then added a second from the penalty spot to score his 20th goal of the top-flight campaign in the second half following an Yves Bissouma handball.

Speaking to BT Sport post-match, Henderson said of Diaz’s contribution on the south coast: “Again, [he was] top-class.

“We’ve said it for weeks now, he’s come in and done fantastically well. With the ball it’s the quality he possesses, without the ball it’s the work-rate and winning the ball back.

“[It was] another big performance from him. It was an important goal for us at that time in the game and another big performance from him and another big performance from the team to get the three points.”

Asked about the victory over Graham Potter’s side, Henderson added: “It’s always pleasing to come away from home and get three points. Brighton are a good footballing side.

“They’re always dangerous, [they] have good technical players and obviously have troubled us at times over the last couple of years.

“It was a big game for us today, and I felt as if we delivered. It was a professional performance. It’s three points on the road, which we’re delighted with.

“You always want a second goal and you always want that to kill the game off a little bit. Thankfully we managed to do that, we had a few more half-chances to score, especially on the counter.

“Overall, I think we’ll be very pleased with that performance, to be honest. We know we have to work and we know we have to improve all the time to get better with the teams that are at the top of the table around us.

“We have to push each other and drive each other on.”
