Matt Beard detailed his all-round satisfaction after Liverpool FC Women's 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers Ladies in the Continental League Cup.

The Reds made it three wins from three in the competition this season to remain top of Group B following Jasmine Matthews' header at Prenton Park on Sunday.

Matthews netted the only goal of the game when she nodded in Carla Humphrey's cross at the end of the first half, with 18-year-old goalkeeper Faye Kirby keeping a clean sheet on her debut.

On the win...

These are tough games to play. Blackburn obviously sat off us today. I felt we created a lot of chances, could've got more, pleased with the clean sheet – congratulations to Faye on her debut, I thought she was fantastic. It's just important for us to keep winning and now we go into that last game with Man City.

On Kirby's debut...

I thought she was outstanding, especially when she didn't have a lot to do and what she did do was fantastic. So congratulations to her. Since she's come in, she's been fantastic and she deserved that opportunity today.

On the goal that won the game...

We had to adjust slightly with what we were doing – push Jas a bit higher up. I thought Carla had a good game today. Mel Lawley was fantastic again – I just love it when she's got the ball at her feet because you don't know what's going to happen. It's a good team goal. We needed to get more bodies in the box like that initially. We were getting in good crossing positions and only had maybe one or two bodies in the box. I think the first time we had four attacking it, we got the goal from it. So that was pleasing.

On the final group game with Manchester City...

It'll be a tough game but we'll obviously look forward to it. Obviously that's in between two big league games for us, so I'm pleased that we've got lots of minutes into lots of players. We've managed to look after other players as well. All in all, it's been a good day for us.

On the fixture against West Ham United next weekend in the Barclays Women's Super League...

After the travel we had last week, I think it was 22 hours on a bus on Saturday-Sunday and Wednesday-Thursday, it's a big game for us here. We know it's a big game and we'll be prepared for it.
