NewsFreddie Woodman signs new contract with Liverpool FC

The 29-year-old bolstered the Reds’ goalkeeping ranks when joining on a free transfer last summer and he has now agreed to extend his stay at Anfield.

“I’m absolutely delighted, to be honest,” Woodman told Liverpoolfc.com. “Off the back of last season, personally it was amazing for me and then to come back in pre-season and there be an offer for me from the club to stay here longer, I was made up.

“I’m just so happy that I could re-sign here and be a part of this amazing club.

“[I feel] pride and so many emotions, really. Last season I came in and did the role I was doing and then when I got the opportunity to play, especially the Palace game, it just felt like a real connection to the fans and just a massive understanding of them.

“Now I get the chance to stay here for longer and to be a part of it again is unbelievable, and me and my family are delighted.”

A former England U21 international, Woodman made four appearances for Liverpool last season.

After debuting in a Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace, he memorably made his Premier League bow for the Reds by coming off the bench in the dramatic 2-1 Merseyside derby win over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium in April.

With Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili out injured, Woodman started Liverpool’s next two top-flight games and was voted Carlsberg Player of the Match for his performance in the victory versus Palace at Anfield.

He will now continue to be part of the Reds’ senior goalkeeping group under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

“[My aim is] just exactly the same as last year, really: to do everything I can in the role that I do every single day, because I might be called upon at any moment,” Woodman added.

“Last season, I know it sounds crazy, but I was ready for that moment when it was at Everton. I worked all season just because I knew I might just have to play a small role, so that will be my goal again this season. It will just be to train and train and train until that moment comes.

“When it does come, I know I’ll be well prepared and ready for the moment.”
