FeatureFrankfurt diary: Eintracht build-up, a revised itinerary and stunning skyline
TUESDAY
11am, Liverpool: As always, John Lennon Airport is where this journey begins. We arrive at the terminal and will be accompanied by some LFC royalty for this trip in the form of John Aldridge and Gary McAllister. They head through security and board the plane. Potential stars of tomorrow quickly follow them through.
Indeed, the Reds' U19s side, led by Rob Page, are looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the UEFA Youth League when they also meet Eintracht on Wednesday afternoon (you can watch that game live on All Red Video).
12pm, Liverpool: Wheels up and away we go. My in-flight entertainment consists of catching up on the Monday Night Football double-header in the NFL, while LFCTV's Mark Benstead has brought along Robbie Fowler's autobiography and gets stuck into that.
2.45pm, Frankfurt: The 90-minute journey – pardon the pun – flies by as the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks handle their business. There's a first sighting of tomorrow's venue, Deutsche Bank Park, in the final stages of the descent and it looks very impressive.
When we get to the hotel, equally as eye-catching is my view of the city from the room. My very basic pre-trip research informed me that the city is often called 'Mainhattan', in a nod to both the River Main and the Manhattan-like skyline here. It should look even better when dark later on.

7.40pm, Frankfurt: Later than planned, owing to technical issues with the aircraft, a 21-man squad sets off from Merseyside. The delay means the pre-match press conference is cancelled and we'll have to wait until tomorrow for our first visit to the stadium, which is a bit of a shame. We still hear from Arne Slot and Dominik Szoboszlai, though, to preview the game, and those interviews are turned around quickly and published on Liverpoolfc.com.
Slot on Eintracht Frankfurt challenge, Hugo Ekitike return and line-up plans
Szoboszlai: We need to show the character we have and what we can do
Over in Germany, with our work for the night complete, attention turns towards dinner plans. I'm in the mood for some schnitzel and/or currywurst, because 'when in Germany...' and all that. We'll go on the hunt. I pop up to the room for a quick freshen up and I'm struck by that beautiful landscape again.
WEDNESDAY
10am, Frankfurt: Matchday is here. I'm still slightly full from a delicious meal last night but power through to embark on a quick run through the city to work up some more appetite for the local cuisine. The professional athletes, meanwhile, head out for a walk later on in the morning and then the countdown for the 9pm local time kick-off begins.
For those not heading off to the Youth League fixture, a fun afternoon of exploring the sites awaits us. "It's a city full of football fans," Szoboszlai said yesterday, and no doubt we'll see how they're building up to the visit of the Premier League champions.
Liverpoolfc.com is the best place to follow it and join us from 4pm BST in Match Centre. Catch you in a few hours…
