The annual Forever Reds Golf Day took place last Friday, raising more than £45,000 to support former players and local charities.

This brings the total raised this season by Forever Reds, the club's official former players association, to more than £120,000 across two events.

Held at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, the event gave supporters the chance to tee off alongside club legends.

This year's participants included Forever Reds chair John Aldridge, Sir Kenny Dalglish, Alan Hansen, Pepe Reina, Gary McAllister, Sander Westerveld, Jay Spearing, Martin Kelly, Neil Mellor, Jason McAteer, Chris Kirkland, Gary Gillespie, Jim Beglin, David James, Vladimir Smicer and Stephen Warnock.

Sixteen teams competed in the fourball competition and the winning team was captained by Westerveld.

The golf day took place ahead of the sold-out LFC Foundation legends match at Anfield and featured a full day of competition with a shotgun start followed by an evening reception, auction and a three-course dinner in the clubhouse. Auction items included exclusive signed memorabilia from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

The Reds' all-time leading goalscorer, Ian Rush, headlined the evening's entertainment with a live Q&A.

Aldridge said: "This is always a great event for us and the fans. We're thrilled to see a few new faces join us this year – including Pepe Reina, Alan Hansen and Sir Kenny Dalglish – to support Forever Reds.

"It's incredible to keep raising more money each season. These donations make a huge difference to our former players and to important causes like Alder Hey Children's Charity."

Jonathan Bamber, LFC's chief legal and external affairs officer and executive sponsor of Forever Reds, added: "Thank you to everyone involved in this special round of golf, which is just one of the fantastic fundraising activities across legends weekend.

"It's great to see so many former players supporting the event, and it's a special day for supporters who get the chance to play alongside their heroes. We're incredibly grateful to everyone who helps us continue raising funds for former players and local charities."

Forever Reds was created to ensure former Liverpool players always feel part of the LFC family – providing support, involving them in community activities and uniting them to raise funds for local charitable causes in partnership with LFC Foundation.

To date, Forever Reds has donated more than £340,000 to local charities. Alder Hey Children's Charity recently received a second donation of £25,000 (£50,000 in total) to help finance a new Surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
