Liverpool v Everton: Live matchday blog

Liverpool recorded an emphatic victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield. Divock Origi scored twice, with Xherdan Shaqiri, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum also on target in a 5-2 win. Michael Keane and Richarlison netted for the Blues.

Jürgen Klopp: "All the goals were incredible, outstanding. Wonderful goals, sensational passes, super pieces of football. I loved it a lot.

"We needed fresh legs and I had to show my respect to the boys in the squad, that's all. They proved it. It is much more fun making changes, all of the boys are ready to deliver performances like this.

"It was a massive moment in my first season when Divock Origi got injured in the derby. It changed his career for a bit."

Club record

Liverpool set a new club record tonight - their run of 32 games unbeaten in the top-flight is the longest sequence in our history.

And here's how the top of the table looks after the latest round of fixtures...

Here's how Opta saw events this evening...

Full Time

Liverpool 5-2 Everton

Liverpool claim a commanding victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield to maintain their eight-point lead at the Premier League summit.

The first half saw the teams trade six goals before the interval: Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri were on target before Michael Keane pulled one back.

Origi and then Sadio Mane made it 4-1, but Richarlison grabbed another for the Blues in stoppage-time.

There was only one more goal after the break and it went Liverpool's way as Gini Wijnaldum rasped in a fifth in the 90th minute.

90

Goal

GOAL!!!! GINI WIJNALDUM!!!!

Liverpool have a fifth goal and it comes via Wijnaldum, who rasps a Firmino pass across goal and into the bottom corner.

Get in!

85

Chance

And at the other end, Kean is put in but drags wide with only Adrian to beat

85

Chance!

Henderson puts Mane in, he rounds Pickford but Holgate recovers and manages to prevent him from netting.

83

Substitution

Our final swap sees Gomez come on in place of Alexander-Arnold.

81

Chance!

Oh, what a chance to make it five for Liverpool.

Henderson's pass over the top puts Mane in, but he nudges his shot an inch wide of the post when faced with Pickford.

80

A Sigurdsson delivery almost presents a chance for Richarlison, but Liverpool get it away for a corner.

78

Wijnaldum meets a Shaqiri free-kick from the left with a near-post header, but he directs it well off target.

72

Substitution

And here comes Liverpool's first substitutions of the night - Henderson and Firmino replace Lallana and Origi.

72

Substitution

Everton's last change - Davies off, Schneiderlin on.

67

Yellow Card

Davies is shown a yellow following a challenge on Alexander-Arnold.

65

Davies scuffs a half-volley towards goal from 25 yards, but it's a routine take for Adrian.

61

Richarlison meets a corner with a header but it's straight at Adrian.

60

Substitution

Everton's second change of the night sees Kean come on for Calvert-Lewin.

53

Mina blocks a spin-and-shot from Origi inside the box.

52

Digne flashes a free-kick over the bar from the left of Liverpool's box.

Kick-Off

Off we go again...

Can the second half be as mad as the first?

Let's find out...

The story of a six-goal first half, as told by Opta...

Half Time

Liverpool 4-2 Everton

What a first half of football at Anfield.

Liverpool raced into a two-goal lead via Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri, but Michael Keane pulled one back for Everton.

Origi and Sadio Mane ehanced the Reds' advantage; however, Richarlison headed in a second for the Blues in first-half stoppage-time.

45+1

Goal

Goal for Everton - Richarlison

The Blues have another and cut Liverpool's advantage to two goals once more as Richarlison heads in from Bernard's delivery from the left.

45

Goal

GOAL!!!!!!!!! SADIO MANE!!!!!!!!!!!

A counter from an Everton corner by the hosts leaves the visitors completely exposed.

Alexander-Arnold and Mane lead it down the left before the former plays in the latter on the edge of the area, who sweeps beyond Pickford from the edge of the box.

Lovely, lovely stuff.

44

A vital touch from Lovren prevents Calvert-Lewin from tapping in a Richarlison centre.

40

Iwobi side-foots wide after being teed up by Richarlison on the edge of the area.

38

Mane's low cross from the right almost finds Wijnaldum unmarked in the centre yards from goal, but Pickford beats him to it with a strong low punch to clear.

35

Substitution

Everton make an early change. Sidibe goes off and Bernard comes on.

31

Goal

GOAL!!!!!!! DIVOCK ORIGI!!!!!!!!!

It's that man once again.

Lovren claims a brilliant assist, pinging a pass over the top into the path of Origi, who takes a touch and lofts the ball over the advancing Pickford.

He loves a Merseyside derby does Divock.

31

Yellow Card

Richarlison goes into the book for a late challenge on Shaqiri

29

Lallana almost toe-pokes Wijnaldum's pass through for Mane, but it's just a touch too far ahead of the forward.

27

Yellow Card

Alexander-Arnold is booked for a late challenge on Digne.

25

Calvert-Lewin looks to get in behind, but he goes to ground under a challenge from Van Dijk as he attempts to shoot.

A fair challenge, deems the referee.

21

Goal

Goal for Everton - Michael Keane

Everton pull one back as they recycle the ball back into the area from a half-cleared corner and Keane dinks the ball over Adrian after it broke for him at close range.

17

Goal

GOAL!!!!!!!! XHERDAN SHAQIRI!!!!!!!!!!!

Liverpool double their lead - and Sadio Mane is again this provider.

A quite ridiculous 40-yard cross-field pass from Alexander-Arnold on the half-volley finds the No.10, who runs at Sidibe, before sliding a pass in for Shaqiri.

The forward steers beyond Pickford first time and it's 2-0 to the hosts.

10

Mane almost gets in behind from Van Dijk's long pass, but Holgate manages to thwart him as he attempts to cut onto his right boot.

8

That's Origi's fourth goal against the Blues - he's scored against them more than any other club for Liverpool.

In fact, he has netted in every Merseyside derby he has played at Anfield.

6

Goal

GOAL!!!! DIVOCK ORIGI!!!!

He's at it again against Everton.

The Reds have an early lead and no surprise that the scorer is Divock Origi.

It stems from an Everton attack as the home side have to clear a Sigurdsson cross. Mane collects the ball and strides forward before sliding a pass into the path of Origi's run.

He side-steps Pickford and rolls into the empty net.

Get in!

1

Van Dijk springs a long pass down the left, Robertson hooks the bouncing ball into the middle and Mane heads well over.

Klopp on team selection

The manager has explained the reasons for his five changes tonight.

"One change we had to do in Adrian for Alisson, and the other four we wanted to do, just to respect the game, to respect the intensity of the game first and foremost," he said ahead of kick-off at Anfield.

"We did it because we can do it. I have to show the respect for the boys and I've said a lot of times how much I like the squad and now we have to use it.

"That's the line-up for today because we think the game will be really intense and for this you need kind of fresh legs and we try to bring them in."

Klopp on Adrian's chance

The boss praised Adrian after the goalkeeper made an unexpected appearance for the final 15 minutes last weekend, and explained his faith in the Spaniard ahead of the clash with Everton.

"My man of the match is Adrian, coming on in a game like this and having that knock of the free-kick," Klopp said after the 2-1 victory over Brighton.

"It is incredible. An ice-cold 'keeper getting his gloves ready and then… [whistle]. That is our life. Then being in the game to make two saves.

"He saved our lives and I am happy for him he can play the derby."

Hendo's message

We sat down with Reds captain Jordan Henderson to preview the visit of the Blues and he explained why the home side will aim to be in 'business as usual' mode at Anfield.

"It's a brilliant game to be involved in. It's a derby, a big derby, so it's very passionate, very emotional," said the midfielder.

"It's a huge game for both teams and at the same time, we look forward to it and you want to be involved and ready to give everything. It comes down to focus and what is important. At the end of the day, it's another game that we want three points from.

"Of course it's a derby and we're going to have to deal with maybe a little bit more media from the outside and a little bit more hype about the game. But for us, it's about business as usual and giving everything and performing to the best of our ability on the night."
