Opening dates and locations have been confirmed for Liverpool FC’s first official standalone retail stores in South Africa, marking a major milestone in the club’s global retail expansion.

LFC’s new Cape Town store is located at Canal Walk Mall and will open on May 12, while the store located in the Mall of Africa in Johannesburg will open on May 15, bringing the official LFC retail store experience to Africa for the first time.

These will be the 24th and 25th stores the club has opened globally, as LFC continues to operate more standalone stores than any other sports team worldwide, with a growing presence across key international markets.

South Africa is home to 12.7 million LFC fans – more than any other club in world football – alongside 37 million cumulative TV viewers last season.

The openings form part of a wider week of in-market activity taking place between May 17 and May 21, as the club celebrates its arrival in South Africa alongside supporters.

This will include appearances from Reds legend and South Africa-born Bruce Grobbelaar, who made more than 600 appearances and earned six league titles, a European Cup, three FA Cups and three League Cups across 13 years with the club.

Supporters will also have the opportunity to see the Champions League trophy up close, with appearances from official mascot Mighty Red and a series of cultural activity and fan engagement events also taking place across the week.

Official store launch events will be held in Cape Town on May 19 and in Johannesburg on May 21, bringing together fans, special guests and the local community to mark the occasion.

“The launch activity across the week reflects the scale of that support, and we’re looking forward to celebrating with fans in Cape Town and Johannesburg as we continue to grow our global retail presence.”
