Reaction'Derby win was for our supporters - and we fully deserved it'
Liverpool FC Women captain Grace Fisk was proud of a Merseyside derby display that secured a win she dedicated to the team's supporters.
The Reds chalked up a 2-0 victory over the Blues at Anfield on Sunday in the Barclays Women's Super League.
Beata Olsson scored with a header from a well-worked set-piece in the fourth minute and, after several chances came and went, Cornelia Kapocs sealed the points in front of the Kop late on.
The success was Liverpool's first versus Everton at the stadium, one Fisk felt they were thoroughly deserving of.
"That was for our fans, 100 per cent," the defender told Liverpoolfc.com post-match.
"It has been a long time coming, winning [against Everton] at Anfield, because in a few previous games I feel we have performed well and not got the results.
"We wanted to make sure this wasn't a repeat of that and I think everyone who watched the game would say we fully deserved the win, and we are just really glad to get the win in front of our supporters at Anfield.
"I'm so proud of all the girls. Everyone knows what it has been like the last few years at Anfield and it's a fine balance of understanding it's a derby and it means more, but also we have to keep our heads and know our game will win us the game.
"We showed our quality and we dominated for large periods so I am really proud of the girls, it was an amazing performance and a very deserved win."
Despite having the majority of control in the encounter, Liverpool were repeatedly frustrated in their attempts to add to Olsson's early effort.
Vivien Endemann hit the crossbar with a volley and Natalia Ramos was unable to find the net with a number of second-half opportunities.
But their perseverance paid off at the end as Kapocs made the most of a loose ball inside the area to net on the turn.
"No-one likes 1-0 as the game goes on and we had so many chances, we were creating and creating and for some reason it wasn't going in, but we just knew we had to keep going and we had the fans behind us," Fisk reflected.
"We could hear them singing the whole time, which really helped us, and eventually the second goal came, which was well deserved.
"We saw the game out, got the win and kept a clean sheet so we are delighted."
Sunday's result made it seven points from a possible 12 for the Reds at the outset of the WSL campaign.
It also followed up a 4-2 midweek win against Sunderland in the Subway Players Cup.
Fisk is confident there is plenty more to come from Gareth Taylor's team as the season progresses, too.
She added: "For the fans that have watched us this season, they know this is a fresh season for us.
"Charlton was a dominant performance, Tottenham we were very disappointed to come away with a draw after playing really well, and then Manchester City that scoreline didn't reflect the whole game.
"This win is a big statement but it wasn't anything that surprised us because we went into this totally ready to win this game, which we did, so we are really excited for the rest of this season.
"This is just the start but we just want to keep going."
