NewsCeri Holland interview: LFC Women v Tottenham, home comforts and squad strength
As Liverpool FC Women prepare for their first home game of the season on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur, Ceri Holland has outlined just why the supporters mean so much to them.
Gareth Taylor’s side started 2026-27 in fine style with a 4-0 win at Charlton Athletic last weekend and now welcome Spurs to St Helens Stadium.
With six new faces added to the squad this summer, hope is high that the Reds’ Barclays Women’s Super League campaign can be a good one.
Holland spoke to Liverpoolfc.com to discuss the opening-day victory, how the squad is gelling and the clash with Tottenham – read on for the interview.
On the 4-0 win at Charlton…
I think it has been a really positive start to the new season. We felt ready and we were really confident going into the opening game. We had a really good pre-season and it was nice to have time together with all of the new players and get to know them. I think the pre-season was successful, we had some good results and it was nice to get that win at Charlton.
The first half was maybe a bit more difficult and we were probably trying to do a little bit too much at times. But we came in at half-time and the coaches spoke with us and we had some clear pointers, and the second half was a really positive performance.

On how the new players are settling in…
Really good. It feels like they have been here longer than they have, which is always nice and it’s always a good sign. They have settled in really well and hopefully they have all found the transition as easy as possible.
On being back in front of the home supporters at St Helens Stadium on Sunday…
It was really nice to see them again when we played Durham in the pre-season. We are looking forward to hopefully having another good crowd. We love playing at St Helens and we love playing in front of fans who are very special to us. They always make the difference. They will be massive again for us this season.
On the challenge of facing Tottenham, who also won their WSL opener…
We beat them late on last season at home and that sticks out because it was our first win in the WSL last season. It was an emotional day all round. But we are looking forward to the challenge, we are confident and we are confident with what we are doing on the training ground and then what we can produce on the pitch. Hopefully we can execute that on Sunday.
