Alexander Isak has thanked fans for their show of support and says he will "work hard" to be back fit as soon as possible.

The Liverpool striker was injured during last weekend's 2-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Isak delivered the opening goal of that contest after stepping off the bench at half-time, but was unable to continue following a challenge on him in the process of scoring.

The Reds' No.9 is sidelined for the foreseeable future, with no timeframe set on his return after he underwent an operation on an ankle problem, which included a fibula fracture.

Taking to social media to send a message to Liverpool supporters, he wrote: "Gutted to be out for a while. Time to recover and support from the sideline. I will work hard to be back as soon as I possibly can.

"Thank you all Reds and everyone else for the kind messages, it does not go unnoticed."
