Feature500 and counting: Liverpool's milestone goalscorers in the European Cup

The Reds became the seventh team in history to bring up that milestone when Dominik Szoboszlai converted in the 16th minute of the encounter with PSV Eindhoven at Anfield last month.

Here, we look back on the club's numerical landmark strikes while competing for the trophy they have lifted six times so far.

1st - Gordon Wallace v KR Reykjavik (August 17, 1964)

Liverpool's affair with European football began with a qualifier against Icelandic opposition.

The tie opened in Reykjavik and, inside three minutes of it, Bill Shankly's side were up and running.

Scottish attacker Wallace netted the first of five for the visitors that night, a close-range finish he would go on to admit was a mishit.

50th - Jimmy Case v FC Zurich (April 20, 1977)

The goal that brought up the half-century would help the Reds, now managed by Bob Paisley, reach their first final.

In the second leg of a last-four tie with the Swiss outfit, Case opened the scoring just past the 30-minute mark by punishing a Zurich defensive error.

100th - Kenny Dalglish v Oulu Palloseura (September 30, 1981)

Liverpool were taken to three figures in the competition with Dalglish's opener against the Finnish visitors to Merseyside.

It was a sombre occasion at Anfield, however, with the match played the day following Shankly's passing.

150th - Steve Nicol v Austria Vienna (March 6, 1985)

Nicol rescued a point for Liverpool from what The Guardian described as their 'most rigorous European tests of recent years' and, in doing so, brought up goal No.150.

The defender headed in an equaliser with four minutes remaining in the first leg of the third-round tie.

200th - Florent Sinama-Pongolle v Olympiacos (December 8, 2004)

The fact the double-century was reached will surely have been lost in the frenzy of this European classic in L4, when Rafael Benitez's Reds left it late to progress from the group phase with a 3-1 win.

The journey towards Steven Gerrard's famous Kop-end strike began with a nudged equaliser from Sinama-Pongolle early in the second half.

250th - John Arne Riise v Barcelona (February 21, 2007)

This milestone was brought up on another memorable night in the competition – this time away from home.

Riise popped up with the statement winner at Camp Nou in minute 74, to give Liverpool control of the knockout tie after falling behind to Deco's early opener.

300th - Ryan Babel v PSV Eindhoven (December 9, 2008)

The already-qualified Reds completed their group-stage campaign with a 3-1 victory in the Netherlands.

Babel took the club to the 300 mark with a header on the stroke of half-time that drew his side level on the night.

350th - Sadio Mane v Spartak Moscow (December 6, 2017)

A 7-0 thrashing of the Russian side at Anfield included a Philippe Coutinho hat-trick and Mane brace.

It was Mane's second that evening – a stretch to direct Daniel Sturridge's square into the net – that put 350 on the board for Liverpool.

400th - Mane v KRC Genk (October 23, 2019)

Jürgen Klopp's men travelled to Belgium in the group phase and would end up winning 4-1.

Mane followed up Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's double by delicately lifting a finish over the goalkeeper in the second half, establishing the club's quadruple-century.

450th - Mane v Villarreal (April 27, 2022)

For his third inclusion on this list, the Reds' Senegalese speedster left his imprint on the first leg of this semi-final tie.

An own goal had given the hosts a lead that was doubled just two minutes later by Mane poking a finish past the goalkeeper.

500th - Szoboszlai v PSV Eindhoven (November 26, 2025)

Szoboszlai was on hand to convert the rebound from a saved Cody Gakpo shot to make history.

That finish put Liverpool into the esteemed list of clubs to have scored 500 times in the European Cup, alongside Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester United, Benfica and Juventus.
