Proposed Main Stand
The proposals for the Main Stand extend seating capacity of this stand to approximately 20,500 seats.
Fans and visitors will benefit from:
- Increased access to tickets
- Modernised concourses
- More hospitality offers
- Improved catering choices
- Improved disabled access and more wheelchair viewing positions
- Attractive open public space
The new Main Stand will comprise three tiers with the existing lower tier re-profiled to accommodate a widened player tunnel, new team benches, media tribune, premium seating and wheelchair viewing positions.
A double height podium will provide access to the Main Stand. Beneath the podium there will be an additional Club retail store, ticket office and the relocated Hillsborough Memorial.
The expanded Main Stand will incorporate public concourse areas and support facilities expected of a 21st Century stadium. Two main outer circulation cores, one at each end of the Stand, provide general admission stairs and escalator access to the upper tier and lifts for wheelchair users to upper and lower concourses.
The lower concourse access is via generous external staircases up to the podium level.
The expanded ground level will be reconfigured to improve the players, officials and media areas including a secure players' coach drop off and VIP parking beneath the podium. It will include a central production kitchen and new staff and operational areas.
An active façade is created at ground level with the inclusion of a new Club retail, a new match day hospitality ticket collection booth beneath the central podium stair, and a prayer room.
The new Main Stand façade will incorporate a carefully designed cloister for the relocation of the Hillsborough Memorial.
The increase in seating capacity enables us to significantly increase the number of premium seats that we can offer. There are three levels of hospitality / VIP accommodation incorporating, box suites, lounges, bars and associated support facilities. Many of these hospitality lounges sit behind the Main Stand façade glazing and benefit from unique views across Liverpool.
Hospitality spaces will be accessed via stair, escalator and lift from a dedicated podium level entry and from the VIP parking areas at ground level.
The proposed landscape improvements have been carefully considered to achieve successful integration into the fabric of the neighbourhood and improve wider connections to Stanley Park as well as creating a space for fans to gather and enhance the experience of those visiting the stadium on match days and non-match days. The images displayed show the public space improvements for the Main Stand expansion.
The key aspects of this are:
- A tree lined grove alongside the Main Stand
- New public space, including hard and soft landscaping and parking areas
- New fan zones at Anfield Square and Anfield Road
- A pedestrian route through the new Anfield Square and up to the podium level in the style of an LFC scarf
- Relocation of the Hillsborough Memorial and historic gates
- The Bill Shankly Statue retained in its existing position
- A design to maximise the potential for use by residents and the community on non-matchdays.
