Liverpool are interested in River Plate defender Gabriel Mercado.

Manager Jurgen Klopp was spotted in America watching Argentina against Chile in the Copa America on Tuesday.

But the Daily Mirror claim Klopp's eyes were on Mercado.

The report says Klopp is now set to decide whether to move for the player.

The 29-year-old is also capable of playing at centre-back and is a former teammate of Everton's Ramiro Funes Mori.

Liverpool have already signed Joel Matip on a free transfer from Schalke and Joe Gomez is expected to fit at the start of pre-season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in October 2015.
