Liverpool have not made a move for Koln left-back Jonas Hector, according to the German club's sporting director Jorg Schmadtke.

The left-back position is one area that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is eager to strengthen this summer and Hector had been mooted as a target.

It is understood that Liverpool did scout the 26-year-old last season and reports over the weekend indicated the Anfield side had made contact with Koln.

However, Schmadtke insists there has been no approach from the Reds as yet and he stressed Koln are not actively looking to sell the defender.

"There is no offer from Liverpool. At the sums being bandied around we see that it can not be a serious matter," he told Bild, who claim Koln will demand a fee of 20million euros (£15.7m) for Hector.

Klopp has also been tipped to make a move for Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs as he seeks a new left-back, with the Gunners said to value the 26-year-old at around £12million.
