Liverpool’s chances of landing Mario Gotze this summer have been given a significant boost after Carlo Ancelotti reportedly told the attacking midfielder he can leave the Allianz Arena.

Jurgen Klopp worked with Gotze for two years during his time as Dortmund boss and he’s a huge admirer of the World Cup winner.

The 23-year-old moved to Bavaria in 2013 but has failed to hold down a regular first-team spot under Pep Guardiola.

Ancelotti’s arrival at the club this summer could have given the attacking midfielder a second chance with the Bundesliga giants but, according to German outlet Focus, Gotze’s been told he’s not part of the Italian’s plans and can leave the club.

Liverpool have a number of options in attacking midfield and the Reds are expected to battle with Dortmund for the attacker’s signature.
