Bayern 'fear of losing Gotze' to Liverpool
Bayern Munich are increasingly fearful of losing Mario Götze to Liverpool this summer after the Germany international admitted he still speaks with former manager Jurgen Klopp.
The 23-year-old left Dortmund for the Allianz Arena in 2013, where he has won two Bundesliga titles since, but is nonetheless linked frequently with a transfer to Merseyside.
“We are texting now and again,” Götze told German television station ZDF recently. “He was my coach at Borussia Dortmund, but there is nothing special.”
According to the Daily Mirror this weekend, the Bayern hierarchy are concerned they may lose their man.
Asked whether they have discussed the possibility of him joining Liverpool in the future, he simply replied: “No.”
Götze, who scored the only goal of the game in the 2014 World Cup final for Germany, returned from a spell on the side-lines earlier this month in Bayern’s 5-0 triumph against Werder Bremen.
“It was nice to return,” he added. “I am just pleased that I was able to play again.”
The Bavarian giants are preparing for a period of transition when Pep Guardiola leaves Munich for Manchester City in the summer but Götze is looking forward to working under Carlo Ancelotti, the Spaniard’s anointed successor.
Pressed further on his future, he said: “It hinges on many factors. Everything else will show in the future. We are still in the current season but, sure, it’ll be important what the new coach thinks.”
The midfielder's contract at Bayern expires in the summer of 2017. Götze has made only seven Bundesliga appearances this season, three of which have come from the substitutes bench, sparking speculation of a move away.
