The first-team pathway offered by Jürgen Klopp meant Ben Woodburn didn't need to think twice about committing his future to Liverpool when the opportunity presented itself.

Just under 11 months on from his senior debut for the Reds, the Wales international today put pen to paper on fresh terms with the club.

He has added a further nine first-team outings since that maiden runout, and become Liverpool's youngest goalscorer of all-time thanks to a League Cup strike against Leeds United.

And it is such opportunities that convinced the No.58 that he is in the right place to flourish.

"I feel like at this club, there is a pathway to the first team and you get given chances here," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"I've played for the first team, but I still want more of it. I've got a lot more to give, so I want to show what I can do."

The Welshman is also confident that he is working with a manager who will do all he can to bring the best out of his young prospects.

"We've got quite a strong relationship. I feel like he does trust me. I feel if he needs me, he will bring me on," he added.

"Around the training ground he'll give you a high five, a hug or whatever. He's good with us young players.

"If you need to work on anything he will tell you and help you do that."

Woodburn has had to be patient in his pursuit of further first-team opportunities so far this season, with outings for the U23s and U19s ensuring he remains sharp in the meantime.

The latter team are, of course, managed by former Reds midfielder Steven Gerrard - a man who the teenage forward idolised in his youth.

On working under Stevie, he said: "That's great as well. Obviously I'm playing with a young age group, but with a manager like Steven Gerrard… he was the best there was, so that's nice.

"When he played, like any young Liverpool fan he was an idol for everyone with the way he scored goals and captained the team. He was the best player.

"He trusts me and has obviously made me captain for that squad, so I just want to show what I can do and hopefully give back for what he's given me."
