Mohamed Salah feels a change in fortune in front of goal was the key to Liverpool’s record-breaking 7-0 Champions League victory over Maribor on Tuesday.

The Reds travelled to Slovenia for their third Group E fixture having won one, lost two and drawn five of their previous eight matches, with most of those outings featuring the frustration of a host of missed chances.

However, Jürgen Klopp’s team were ruthless at Ljudski vrt, with goals from Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Salah putting them 3-0 up inside the first 20 minutes.

Salah was then credited with the fourth as he and Firmino both got on the end of Alberto Moreno’s cross, before the No.9, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander-Arnold all netted in the second half to seal the club’s biggest ever away win in Europe.

“I think it was a great game and we did good in that game. I think it’s an important result for us so we have to keep looking forward and we have to win the next games,” Salah told BT Sport after the game.

“We had bad luck [in the last few matches]. In the last three or four games we missed many chances, if you saw the games you know we created many chances that we missed and we had bad luck.

“So now I think that everyone has confidence the good result is coming, so now we are in a good position and I’m sure in the next games it will be the same.”

The Egypt international joked that he didn’t mind who the Reds’ fourth goal was awarded to, and also spoke of the side’s determination to get back to winning ways domestically.

“I don’t know, we’ll see now!” he replied, when asked whether it was his or Firmino’s goal.

“But I celebrated and they gave the goal to me, but I would say it doesn’t change anything. The team did good and we had a good result so that’s the most important thing.

“I’m very happy for that - seven goals or eight goals [scored since he joined Liverpool] doesn’t change anything, but the most important thing for us is to concentrate on improving the results in the Premier League.

“We didn’t win for two, three games, so we need to carry on and keep looking forward and win the next games.”
