James Milner returns to his former club on Sunday with a clear intention: to help find and exploit Manchester City's weaknesses.

The Liverpool vice-captain spent five years with City before making the switch to Merseyside in the summer of 2015.

The two sides meet this weekend for the latest crunch clash in the unpredictable race to secure a place in the Premier League top four.

Milner and co will make the short journey to the Etihad Stadium having defeated Pep Guardiola's team earlier this season and recorded a league double over City last term.

The No.7 understands the quality of the opposition better than most, though, and knows the Reds have to identify their Achilles heel again to get the positive result they crave.

"It's two completely different teams and styles of play, but two fantastic teams," he told Sky Sports.

"We always work on the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition. They've got a lot of top, top players.

"David Silva is incredible, he always gets the weight of pass right, Raheem [Sterling] has gone and done really well, and obviously Sergio [Aguero] is so sharp around the box.

"They've got a lot of top players to stop, but we've got a good record against them, we'll set up the way the manager wants, we'll set up in training this week, look at their weaknesses and hopefully exploit them."
