Jordan Henderson has used his official matchday programme column to heap praise upon the performances of Emre Can and Divock Origi in last weekend’s victory over Arsenal.

Can impressed in a central-midfield berth throughout the 3-1 victory over the Gunners, while Origi came off the bench to tee up Georginio Wijnaldum’s crucial third in stoppage time.

Henderson wrote in ‘This is Anfield’: “It was the sort of performance where the ‘man of the match’ award could have gone to anyone in a Liverpool shirt; I thought everyone did their job superbly.

“Being a midfielder myself, I really enjoyed Emre Can’s performance. I thought he dominated the position and showed real leadership in there. Everyone knows what a massive talent Emre is and it’s frightening that you have to remind yourself at times just how young he is. He plays like someone with far more experience and maturity.

“The other performance I wanted to flag was that of Divock Origi. His contribution when he came on was outstanding. He was strong, positive, clever and selfless. Again I have to remind myself that Divock is very much at the start of his career; it’s so easy to forget how young he is.

“I think the lads were too exhausted to celebrate with him properly at the end, when he squared it for Gini to score the third goal, but in the dressing room afterwards everyone appreciated the role he played.

“What was most telling, after the game, is how quickly the focus shifted to today and playing against Burnley. We found out earlier in the season just how good Burnley are when they beat us at their place and they’ve got even stronger since with the signings they made in January.”
