Post-match

The manager's verdict

Jürgen Klopp admitted Liverpool had no excuses for the manner of their defeat against Leicester. Click here to read the boss' summary of the game at his post-match press conference.

95

Full Time

An evening to forget for the Reds as they go down to a 3-1 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The hosts raced into a three-goal lead thanks to a Jamie Vardy brace and a long-range effort from Danny Drinkwater, while Philippe Coutinho grabbed a consolation.

86

Schmeichel somehow keeps out Coutinho's half-volley from the edge of the area.

83

Substitution

Ben Woodburn is on for Lucas Leiva.

80

Lucas meets Clyne's delivery from a half-cleared corner, but heads wide of the far post.

78

Now Mahrez goes beyond three Liverpool defenders in the box before pulling the ball back to Drinkwater, who scoops over.

77

Origi cuts in from the left and tries to find the bottom corner, but Schmeichel saves.

67

Goal

Goal for Liverpool - Philippe Coutinho

The Reds have a goal back as Can does superbly to bound into space before teeing up Coutinho, who slides home from 15 yards.

65

Substitution

Liverpool double change - Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana off, Divock Origi and Alberto Moreno on.

64

Firmino's flick puts Lallana into a shooting position just inside the box, but Schmeichel is able to push it to safety.

62

Matip shoots from the corner of the area and strikes the side netting.

59

Goal for Leicester - Jamie Vardy

The home side have a third as Vardy beats Can to Fuchs' cross and heads beyond Mignolet from six yards.

56

Mane speeds into the area after winning the ball back and strikes, but Huth blocks.

Better from Liverpool this, though.

54

The ball rolls invitingly for Coutinho, who drills one towards goal from distance, but it's a comfortable claim for Schmeichel.

47

Looks like the Reds have made a tactical change, with Can slotting in on the left of a three-man defence and Milner and Clyne operating as wing-backs.

46

Half Time

HALF-TIME

Goals from Jamie Vardy and Danny Drinkwater have given Leicester a two-goal lead at half-time and left Liverpool with plenty of work to do if they're to take anything from this game.

45

Can tries to bend one into the bottom corner from 20 yards out, but Schmeichel keeps it out.

45

Can tries to bend one into the bottom corner from 20 yards out, but Schmeichel keeps it out.

38

Goal

Goal for Leicester - Danny Drinkwater

The Foxes make it 2-0 as Liverpool fail to properly clear from a long throw into the area. The ball ends up bouncing nicely for Drinkwater 25 yards out, and he finds the corner with a well-executed strike.

34

Now Mignolet is tested by Ndidi from just inside the area as Leicester unsettle the Reds defence once more. Easy take for the stopper, however.

32

Schmeichel gathers from Wijnaldum's header off a Lallana cross, but the midfielder is flagged offside anyway.

29

Liverpool close to an instant riposte, but Schmeichel sprawls himself at the feet of Coutinho and blocks his close-range effort.

27

Goal

Goal for Leicester - Jamie Vardy

Liverpool fall behind as they give the ball away cheaply in midfield, allowing Marc Albrighton to play a first-time throughball for Vardy to chase.

He finds himself facing Simon Mignolet and drives the ball under the goalkeeper and into the net.

26

Match shot

24

Coutinho cracks an effort towards goal from the edge of the area but it cannons against Morgan.

19

Another good chance for Leicester - and another save from Mignolet.

This time Vardy wriggles between Lucas and Matip from Schmeichel's long ball forward and prods towards goal, but the Reds stopper manages to thwart him and Clyne completes the clearance.

14

Huth now heads well over the bar from Mahrez's corner as Leicester come back at the visitors.

9

Great link up between Lallana and Mane sees the latter drill a low ball into the six-yard box, where Morgan clears just before Matip (yes, Matip) can tap in.

6

Mignolet is called upon to make another save - this time he claws Okazaki's header from Vardy's scuffed shot from inside the post.

4

Leicester have started brightly here and Mignolet needs to make a smart stop from Huth's flick on after Fuchs hurled a long throw into the area.

1

Mane needs treatment inside the first minute here after a late challenge by Vardy.

Mahrez eyeing home comforts

Speaking in today's matchday programme, Leicester forward Riyadh Mahrez has acknowledged that he and his teammates were second best when they came up against the Reds at Anfield earlier this season.

But the Algerian attacker expects the Foxes' fortunes to be different at home.

"The game at Anfield earlier this season was played at a really high intensity. Liverpool scored a couple of goals in quick succession.

"We managed to leap on an error and score ourselves but in the second half they were better than us. This game is at home though and we're always confident going into home games. It's a very important game for everybody."

Pre-match

The view from the opposition

Leicester's interim first team boss Craig Shakespeare is hoping tonight's hosts can build on their midweek performance against Sevilla by putting in another strong showing against the Reds.

"I believe we have the quality in our squad to cause problems for them. We saw positive signs in Seville last week, particularly in the second half, so it's important we build on that by starting well tonight."

We're here...

The King Power Stadium is all set for the Reds' visit this evening.

Our biggest away win at Leicester City

We have our usual live commentary service on Liverpoolfc.com tonight, and our summariser David Fairclough netted during Liverpool's biggest ever away victory at Leicester City.

Fairclough, who started the game at No.10 instead of his famous No.12, scored the opener as the Reds won 4-0 at Filbert Street in November 1977.

Kenny Dalglish, Steve Heighway and Terry McDermott were also on the mark.

A Liverpool and Leicester hero gives his view on tonight's clash

It's always a pleasure to catch up with treble hero Gary McAllister, and we sat down with our former No.21 to get his view on Adam Lallana's new deal and tonight's clash with his old club Leicester City.

Looking ahead to Monday's match at the King Power Stadium, McAllister said: "We’ve just got to follow up on what I thought was a great performance against Spurs.

"There’s no point winning at home and then dropping points away at Leicester so we’ve got to back it up because the race for the top four is getting harder and harder and this is a fixture we need to go and get a good result.

"Watching us against Spurs that first half was as good as I’ve seen from any side this season. We never gave Tottenham anything during the game and it really was impressive stuff."

Weather

Weather update alert!

You didn't think we'd forgotten about our matchday weather update, did you? As if we'd do that!

Anyway, for those of you travelling to the King Power Stadium this evening we have some advice for you: wrap up because it's going to be cold.

Temperatures are likely to dip to around three degrees come kick-off, although it's said it'll feel more like minus one - leading to Liverpoolfc.com's David Lynch declaring he'll be sporting his thermals in the press box.

Fortunately, the showers in Leicester this afternoon will have passed by the time the game comes around, so it should be pretty dry.

And there you have it.

A word with Phil...

We caught up with Philippe Coutinho at Melwood late last week to chat about tonight's game - and our Little Magician insisted Liverpool will make the journey to the King Power Stadium full of confidence.

“Leicester are last season’s champions, so they have a lot of quality. There are very good players there, so it’s sure to be a difficult game. Every game in the Premier League is difficult, all teams are well prepared, and so we have to be well prepared.

“It’s very important for us [to follow up the victory against Spurs]. I think that, in our situation, all the coming games will be of equal importance. We have to get on the field 100 per cent focused and try to do the same as we did in the game with Tottenham.”

  • The Reds have lost just one of their last nine Premier League meetings with Leicester, winning six of those games and drawing twice.

The last time...

Pre-match

Bobby itching for action

Roberto Firmino is setting his sights on a top-four finish for Liverpool this season - and although he feels the opportunity to focus solely on Premier League action will be helpful, he'd much prefer a packed-out schedule.

"I would play two or three times a week if we could. It's best for the team to be playing that way.

"The objective is to end in the top four. We are going to keep on fighting until the last game to achieve that goal."
