Liverpool's performance against Chelsea must be the benchmark for the rest of the season, Simon Mignolet explained after Tuesday's 1-1 draw.

An absorbing Premier League clash between the Reds and the leaders ended level at Anfield, with David Luiz and Georginio Wijnaldum on target in either half.

Chelsea could have snatched victory late on when Diego Costa won a penalty and stepped up to take it – but Mignolet reacted sharply to push away the spot-kick to his right.

And the goalkeeper felt the final result was the minimum Liverpool deserved on the night, calling for more of the same throughout what is left of the campaign.

“Straight after the game, the feeling is that you’re disappointed,” Mignolet told BT Sport post-match.

“If you do that against Chelsea – who are leading the Premier League, getting a lot of points and playing good football – then it shows how hungry we are in the dressing room. I think we deserved the three points.

“We can focus on the Premier League [now] and we want to challenge until the last day. We’ve got big games coming up. We look forward to that.

“If we can play like we did today, we can definitely pick up a lot of points. We’ll try to do that. Today showed we’re a really good side who responded after a few disappointing games. We have to set this as a benchmark and keep going.”
