Dejan Lovren feels Liverpool's performance against Manchester United merited three points, but the defender is by no means too downhearted after the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Jürgen Klopp’s side were denied a win on Sunday afternoon by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s late header, which cancelled out James Milner’s first-half opener from the penalty spot.

An impressive, robust display from the visitors was personified by Lovren at the heart of their defence, with the Croatia international being named Man of the Match for his efforts.

And while the No.6 admitted Ibrahimovic’s 84th-minute equaliser represented a blow, he believes a point can be deemed satisfactory.

“It was really tough to be honest, especially second half,” Lovren told Sky Sports, when asked how intense the match was.

“It was proper high-intensity football today, with a lot of chances from their side and from ours even more. We could score more I would say, we deserved more, but at the end it’s a good point here.

“It’s always tough to play here, to take some points here, so altogether it’s OK.”

When asked to sum up the overall feeling in the away dressing room after the match, Lovren replied: “[We’re] disappointed to be honest, because we knew we could take more from today, but we need to keep going on and concentrate on the next game.”

As well as performing his defensive duties superbly, Lovren also played his part in the Reds’ goal as his attempted header was handled by Paul Pogba, leading Michael Oliver to award the spot-kick that Milner duly converted in the 27th minute.

“We showed our quality today from our set-pieces, we know where our strengths are for us,” the centre-back added.

“We could’ve scored more, like I said, I had a couple of chances, but at the end it’s a good point.”
