Jürgen Klopp has used his notes for Liverpool's official matchday programme to assess this year and outline his hopes for 2017.

Writing in 'This is Anfield' ahead of this evening's clash with Manchester City, the manager explains that while his team have progressed well over the last 12 months, next year can be even better.

"So, this is the final game of 2016 and it has been a year of great blessings for me and my family," Klopp states.

"There were many wonderful moments for this club in the past 12 months and maybe some not so great. But I think what we have shown is that we are on the right path and in a really good way.

"We have a good squad with hungry, talented players. These are players who want to be here, want to perform and be successful for LFC. They want to learn and get even better.

"We have a home, in Anfield, that thanks to our owners has got bigger and improved. And I think most importantly, we have a sense that we are together; every part of the club feels the positivity and is looking forward and sensing a future of good times and great moments.

"I feel that we all believe, together, we can make the next year even better than the one that came before it.

"That should always be our aim: appreciate what has gone before, enjoy the present and be excited about the future. I think this will be LFC in 2017."
