Jürgen Klopp believes the return of Daniel Sturridge and Emre Can has provided Liverpool with a timely boost as they prepare to enter a period of three Premier League games in seven days over Christmas and New Year.

The duo made their comebacks from injury during the dramatic 1-0 Merseyside derby victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Monday evening.

Indeed, both made telling contributions in helping the Reds to the three points, particularly Sturridge whose shot it was that struck the post and allowed Sadio Mane to net the 94th-minute winner as he reacted quickest inside the area to the loose ball.

And with Liverpool set to face Stoke City, Manchester City and Sunderland between December 27 and January 2, Klopp is pleased to be able to call upon their services once more.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: “It was very important [to have them back].

“Daniel, [had] trained only two times, so we were really waiting for the moment when we could use him, [then] the game was for him at the end. Twice training is not the biggest intensity.

“It was pretty much the same for Emre, who trained a little bit longer and didn’t have a long break.

“It’s very important they are back. We need these options to change to do some things in and around a game. It’s good.”
