Marko Grujic is currently sidelined with a tendon injury, Jürgen Klopp has confirmed.

The Liverpool midfielder has not been part of the matchday squad for the past two games, after a late substitute appearance against Leeds United in the EFL Cup.

Klopp was asked for an update on Grujic’s condition at his pre-Middlesbrough press conference – and explained why the 20-year-old is unavailable at present.

“It’s kind of where the tendon goes over the muscle, so it is a little tendon injury,” the manager said.

“They told me it was round about three weeks, so he is already on the way back, but not back.

“When it happened, he trained normally and then afterwards he felt it a little bit. That was the diagnosis and since then he has been out.”
