Danny Ward may be spending the season on loan at Huddersfield Town, but he still retains a keen interest in the goalkeeping situation at Liverpool.

The Welshman admits to having 'watched from afar' as Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet have battled it out for a starting berth between the sticks at his parent club this term.

Both men have featured in goal for the Reds so far this season, leaving Jürgen Klopp to regularly express delight at his options in that position.

And the Reds' success in the early stages of 2016-17 has left Ward in no doubt that the competition for places back at Anfield is having a positive effect.

"It’s just part of being at a big club, as a goalkeeper if you’ve got someone who’s pushing you it’s good," he said in the latest episode of #LFCWORLD.

"If you’ve got top goalkeepers like we have at Liverpool it is tough. It is a competition for that number one jersey.

"It’s been fascinating to watch from afar, normally I’m in amongst it, but we’ve got two great goalkeepers at the moment and hopefully they can keep pushing each other on."

In part thanks to Ward's impressive performances, Huddersfield sit just outside the automatic promotion spots in the Championship after 16 games.

And the 23-year-old reveals he has remained in regular contact with his goalkeeping coach at LFC during what has been a strong start to life on loan.

But he insists his main focus is on performing for David Wagner's team, rather than his standing when he returns to Anfield.

"I speak to John Achterberg on a regular basis, he watches all my games and tells me how he thinks I’m doing, so that is really good," he added.

"Obviously I keep some contact but for now I am a Huddersfield Town player and I’ve got to give everything with no distractions."
