Aged just 18, the man who would come to be known forevermore as 'Supersub' at Anfield started the Reds' First Division match at Middlesbrough, which they won 1-0 thanks to a late Terry McDermott goal.
Fairclough went on to make 154 appearances in a trophy-laden seven-and-a-half years in Liverpool's first-team squad, scoring 55 times.
Of those 55 goals, 18 were scored from the bench against 13 different opponents.
