Jürgen Klopp admits Liverpool have 'unfinished business' in the EFL Cup but the manager understands there is a lot of work still to do in the competition.

The Reds reached the tournament’s final at Wembley last season and were only denied the chance to lift the trophy after a penalty shootout against Manchester City.

This term, Klopp’s side have eased into a quarter-final meeting with Leeds United at Anfield, having eliminated Burton Albion, Derby County and most recently Tottenham Hotspur.

The boss insists nothing will be granted to Liverpool, however, and no thoughts of returning to the final will enter the players’ minds at this stage.

“There was unfinished business before we started the tournament again,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com after the win over Spurs.

“It’s not only unfinished business because we lost in the final – you can’t say that just because you were in the final last year then it’s your logical role to be the next winner! We have to do a lot for it.

“We have different jobs to do – we need to be ready for the next Premier League game.

“And we need to keep one eye on the situation of the players [with injuries]. So we need to stay awake, we need to stay on track, and then a lot of things could be possible for us.

“Now it’s the quarter-final. We don’t dream, but we’ll be ready again in November.”
