As Joe Gomez takes the next step in his recovery from long-term injury, the defender has explained why being at the club is an honour.

The 19-year-old recently met DJ Charlie Sloth at Melwood to discuss life, music and football – just over a year after he moved to Liverpool and impressed in his opening weeks.

A cruel anterior cruciate ligament injury halted Gomez’s progress in its tracks but now he is in a position to reflect on the experience from a philosophical viewpoint.

Read on for the best bits of his chat with Sloth and watch the interview in full on LFCTV GO below.

On living in Liverpool…

It’s a lot more of a family-orientated place. People are a lot more peaceful, it’s less hectic. I’m enjoying it – it’s a nice city and a great place to live. I’ve settled in well and I love it here.

On signing for the club…

It was a dream come true. I never would have imagined a year before that I would be in that position. It’s a day I’ll forever be proud of. It’s an honour to be part of this club.

On the team spirit at Anfield…

The whole team plays together and it has shown on the pitch recently with the results. The team is flying. The way [Jürgen Klopp] has established that, you can see the emotion in the team when we play.

On wanting to return to action…

It has been a long year. It has been tough. But it is all behind me – I’ve grown from it and learned a lot physically and mentally. Only good can come from it.

On his highlight at Liverpool so far…

That first period when I was playing. Playing for Liverpool is such an honour. It was a great feeling and I just want to get back to doing that now.
