Aim for the top and strive for the best – that is the philosophy driving Danny Ward during his loan spell with Huddersfield Town.

The Liverpool goalkeeper is with the Championship side for the duration of the season as he builds on recent progress which has included a Reds debut, international bow and productive time at Aberdeen.

Ward has helped the Terriers climb to the top of England’s second flight as they chase promotion to the Premier League under the guidance of Jürgen Klopp’s friend David Wagner.

Long-term aims remain in his mind, too, including the goal of more Liverpool appearances.

“You have to strive and aim to be at the top and hopefully I can get there,” the 23-year-old told BBC Radio Wales Sport.

“You don’t sign for a club to settle for what you’ve got. You’ve always got to try to push yourself to be the best.”

Ward has been watching his parent club’s form with interest.

Five wins out of seven in the Premier League have put Liverpool in the mix at this early stage of the season, while back-to-back results against Championship opposition put Klopp’s men in round four of the EFL Cup.

And the ‘keeper feels the Reds are profiting from the decisions made on and off the pitch during the summer.

He said: “At Liverpool, they all look hungry, as if they’ve got a real desire and that’s quite similar to here.

“The manager has implemented his style and brought players in he feels would work and it seems to be paying off.”
