Marko Grujic has offered an explanation for his hilarious open-mouthed reaction to Jordan Henderson's stunning goal against Chelsea, stating: 'He scored one of the best goals I've ever seen in my life!'

Clips of the Serbian midfielder looking astonished in the aftermath of the captain's brilliant 30-yard curler were widely shared on social media following the Reds' 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge last Friday.

Grujic was caught on camera wearing a disbelieving stare as he stood up from the bench while Jürgen Klopp and his staff enthusiastically celebrated a crucial goal in front of him.

But he insists his response was fully justified given the sheer quality of Henderson's strike.

"When Jordan first shot, [the ball bent] so far from the goal but then I saw it go in the net and I was shocked - a nice shocked!" he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"He scored one of the best goals I've ever seen in my life. My reaction was the truth and that's why I made a strange face but it was a nice goal, one of the best I've seen."

Dejan Lovren shared an amusingly accurate impression of his teammate's reaction on Instagram during the squad's journey back to Merseyside that evening.

And he was still clearly relishing the opportunity to poke fun at his colleague when quizzed about the moment.

"I'm still laughing, it was too funny!" the defender said.

"When I saw the video, I asked him straight away why he did that face. He said, 'I was thinking the ball was over the bar'.

"It was funny, so after the game we made a quick video with him."

Grujic and Lovren were speaking at a Liverpool FC Foundation 'Respect 4 All' session. Stay logged on to Liverpoolfc.com for video and text reports on their visit.
