'It's clear - we have very good players in every single position'
The strength in depth at Jürgen Klopp's disposal makes Lucas Leiva confident that Liverpool can be successful this season.
The manager added seven new faces to his squad during the summer transfer window, with the likes of Sadio Mane, Georginio Wijnaldum and Joel Matip joining January signing Marko Grujic in making the move to Anfield.
And Lucas, who is now back to full fitness after a hamstring injury forced him to miss the start of the campaign, feels the Reds have the quality needed to challenge for honours in 2016-17.
“I think it’s clear that we have very good players in every single position - and not just one good player, I would say we have two teams you could put out to get you results,” the Brazilian told Liverpoolfc.com.
“Of course the Premier League is very difficult, but I think the squad we have, with the new players who have made us stronger - hopefully it’s going to be a very good season for the club.”
The Reds’ start to the Premier League campaign has been something of a mixed bag, with a thrilling opening-day win over Arsenal and an impressive draw at Tottenham Hotspur sandwiching a day to forget at Burnley.
The redevelopment of the Main Stand meant Klopp’s side had to play those three fixtures away from Anfield, but they will make their long-awaited return to home turf against reigning champions Leicester City on Saturday.
“Of course it could be better,” was Lucas’ response when asked for his assessment of Liverpool’s start to the season.
“Especially the Spurs game - we had a chance to win the game. The Burnley game was a strange one because we had a lot of the ball.
“I think it’s an OK beginning. We’ve played three games away from home in a row, and against two teams who will challenge for the top four and the title, so it’s not bad.
“But we need to get points and win games in a row as soon as possible because we want to be higher in the table.”
This season marks Lucas’ 10th in the red shirt and the 29-year-old insists his level of hunger and desire to succeed remains as high as ever.
“It’s always there,” the No.21 said.
“I’m really looking forward to the new season and hopefully it’ll be a good one for me personally.”
