James Milner expects results to come for Liverpool if they can maintain their performance levels, after being left disappointed by the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The vice-captain put the Reds in a position to take maximum points at White Hart Lane when he converted a penalty shortly before the half-time interval.

Jürgen Klopp’s side struck the crossbar through a Joel Matip header and Sadio Mane saw an effort disallowed for offside as they sought to double the lead.

But instead, Spurs levelled in the second half as Danny Rose pounced on a chance at the back post to secure his team a share of the spoils in north London.

Milner told Sky Sports: “Ultimately, we’re disappointed.

“We played well in the first half but didn’t do enough in the second half. It’s probably a fair result in the end.

“I thought we deserved to be in front after the first half, but they came out in the second half. Once we scored the goal we didn’t really get in their faces as much as we had before and on the front foot, which is disappointing. But it’s a tough place to come.”

Asked for a summary of Liverpool’s opening three Premier League games, he added: “It was a tough start with a couple of trips to London and Burnley as well – three tough games to start with.

“Four points, we probably should have had more. But if you look at the performances, we’re not too far away from hitting that level, we have played pretty well.

“[We’re] disappointed but that’s football ultimately, it’s all about results. As long as we keep performing and doing the right things, and don’t get impatient with it, I’m sure more results will come.

“It’s a pretty solid start to the season.”
