Dejan Lovren insists he will be ready for the high press Tottenham Hotspur are likely to deploy against Liverpool's backline this weekend because he faces a similar approach at Melwood every day.

The Reds will hope to land an early blow on a rival for a top-four finish in the Premier League this term when they head to White Hart Lane for Saturday's early kick-off.

Last season, Mauricio Pochettino led Spurs to third place in the English top flight thanks to what Jürgen Klopp this week termed a 'high pressing, high pressure' style of play.

But Lovren has been prepared for that approach by the hard-working attackers he calls teammates.

"I'm always under pressure here at the training ground when we play against each other every day!" he told Liverpoolfc.com

"So I know what to expect because it's really similar [here] with our strikers pressing me. We need to be calm on the ball and get out as simply as possible and as quickly as possible.

"Tottenham is always a good pressing team, always tactically good in defending and they were not third last year without a reason."

The Croatia international also revealed how Klopp's tailored training sessions will ensure every member of his squad is ready for anything Spurs might throw at them.

"Because it's a different opponent, you need to adapt yourself," he added.

"We are doing quite different training sessions and tactics but the one thing that is always the same is the winning mentality.

"We are not a team who will wait and be behind the ball to wait for one or two chances, we want to attack, we want to score goals.

"Sometimes, we are too offensive and [it is] two shots, two goals [against], like against Burnley.

"But we are learning, we are a really young team with so much quality and a great manager, we just need to improve our mentality each day in training."

Last October, Klopp took charge of Liverpool for the first time as Tottenham were held to a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane.

Lovren believes the German has taken great strides in his 11 months at Anfield, and says now is the time for the team to start building on the foundations they have laid.

"The first six or seven months with Jürgen, it was like a learning process, meeting each other and [getting to] know each other," he explained.

"I think the manager now knows everything about the club, everything about the players and I think now we can start with him.

"We had a really good pre-season with him and now we know everything about each other, and that's the most important thing.

"It was quite a tough time when Jürgen came, but he came in the right moment."
