Kevin Stewart believes tonight's EFL Cup tie at Burton Albion represents the perfect opportunity for Liverpool to bounce back from their defeat at Burnley.

The Reds return to action this evening, just three days after losing their second Premier League game of the season 2-0 at Turf Moor.

Jürgen Klopp insisted he saw some positives against the Clarets despite the disappointing result - a view shared by midfielder Stewart, who feels there is no need to panic as Liverpool prepare to begin their League Cup campaign at Pirelli Stadium.

“[After] the game we played before [the 4-3 win at Arsenal] everyone was buzzing and in really high spirits, but I don’t think we can get too down like it’s the end of the world,” Stewart told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We lost the game but I think we still looked a threat and good going forward. We just need to carry on what we’re doing. We’ve got a really good plan, good players, great coaches and in the coming weeks we’ll improve.

“[We’ve got to] move on quickly - stick to what we’re doing, don’t get too down. I don’t think it’s too much of a problem.

“If it takes a long time for your next game to come then you think about it [a defeat] for too long. [To have] another game quickly is good for us to show everyone what we can do.”

Liverpool went all the way to the final of last season’s League Cup before losing on penalties to Manchester City, but Stewart does not expect the squad to use that heartbreaking defeat at Wembley as extra motivation to go one better this time around.

“Every season the lads are pumped up and ready to go again,” the No.35 continued.

“It wouldn’t matter if we’d won or lost it last year. It’s a game, so of course we’re pumped up for it and ready to play.”

Stewart spent the final couple of months of the 2014-15 season on loan at Burton, scoring twice in seven appearances to help the Brewers to the League Two title.

And the 22-year-old is looking forward to returning to the club as a Liverpool player.

He added: “It will be good to go back to the stadium and see everything again, see some old faces and play against them hopefully. It’ll be really exciting.”
