By Paul Godley, Leicester City fan

What are your feelings ahead of the new season?

I see no reason to be anything other positive. Who would have predicted anything that has happened to us since being promoted two years ago? A remarkable relegation escape followed up with an even more remarkable title win. It’s been an unforgettable few years, and I truly believe that this will be another one. We’re reigning Premier League champions and will be seeded in pot one of the Champions League draw. As a Leicester City fan, that’s something I never thought I could dream of, let alone be true. But it is. Top four is a real possibility, even given the European football addition.

Are you satisfied with your club’s transfer business this summer?

Yes. The loss of Kante will of course be huge, and in all likelihood will be irreplaceable. Seeing the fees spent by clubs in Manchester, £30million for a player like Kante seems an absolute steal. Still, we move on. Pace will once again be a huge threat for us this year. With Vardy signed up on a new long-term deal, and Ahmed Musa joining him, we are going to be like an Olympic sprint team up top. Vardy’s quick, Musa’s quicker. Demarai Gray was limited to substitute appearances after his January arrival, but I fully expect him to play a big role this season. The size of the squad needed increasing, and that has been done. Ron-Robert Zieler will provide proper competition for Kasper Schmeichel. I personally don’t know much about him, but there’s been a lot of excitement around the arrival of Polish star Bartosz Kapustka. We may have lost highly-respected chief scout Steve Walsh to Everton, but recruitment of new players has been such a key and hugely successful part in our rise over recent years, that you have to believe anyone coming in will have some sort of positive effect.

How is your team likely to line up?

I’d expect the defence to remain as it was last season, particularly early on. Ranieri will undoubtedly have to ‘tinker’ more this year with the extra games and travel. As mentioned above, the squad has more depth now, but the energy of Kante could well result in a change of formation for ‘big’ games. He essentially did the work of two players. Vardy and Mahrez will remain the big two in the final third for us – but the likes of Gray/Musa/Okazaki will all chip in.

Have you got the right man in charge?

Yes. 100 per cent.

What do you expect from Liverpool this season?

With no European football, a squad revamp and a full summer for Klopp to stamp his mark, the aim has to be top four. I think fourth is a possibility, but I wouldn’t necessarily put money on it.

If you could have one Liverpool player in your team, who would it be?

I’ve always been a fan of Emre Can. However, I’d have to say Firmino. He may not be the most consistent, but the potential for the spectacular just sways it.

Top four (in order)?

Man City
Man Utd
Chelsea
Tottenham

Relegated?

Hull, Burnley, Watford

Who will be the surprise package?

Crikey. Tough question! There’s been so much change right across the league, it’s impossible to say. Ah heck. Leicester City! Top six and Champions League progression.

What is your one wish for the season?

To have a real go in the Champions League. Our pace can and will scare European defences, and they won’t enjoy playing against us. If we could still be in it after Christmas, I’d be over the moon.
