Daniel Sturridge insists he is relaxed and ready to 'step up' to the challenge awaiting England when they face Iceland in the last 16 of Euro 2016 on Monday.

Roy Hodgson's side face their first winner-takes-all fixture of the tournament in Nice tomorrow, with Sturridge one of five Liverpool stars vying for a place in the starting XI.

And the striker has promised that he will relish the occasion should he be selected to feature on the biggest stage for his country.

"I love playing big games, it's the best feeling," he told ITV.

"When you're in the situations where everything's on the line and someone's got to step up."

Sturridge's confidence that he can influence big games comes from the fact that he is always out to enjoy himself on the football pitch, rather than spending time fretting over what can go wrong.

As the 26-year-old explained: "When I'm playing I try to have as much fun as I can because this doesn't last forever.

"When I'm on the pitch, I don't worry if I give the ball away, I don't worry if I miss a chance, I don't worry if things aren't going well for me because I'm having fun."

And that rings true even for a fixture that the forward admits ranks as the most significant of his international career thus far.

He added: "It's the biggest for England, for sure. It's just going out there and enjoying it, embracing it, feeling the vibes.

"It's not about worrying about the occasion, it's worrying what I'm going to do to cause the opposition problems.

"That's my biggest worry, nothing else."
