Nathaniel Clyne has declared himself pleased with his performance in his first outing of Euro 2016 as England drew 0-0 with Slovakia on Monday.

The Three Lions dominated the final game of their group-stage campaign but were ultimately thwarted by an admirable showing from a backline containing Martin Skrtel.

Roy Hodgson made six changes to his starting XI for the fixture, with Clyne one of the standout players in a much-changed line-up that saw him replace Kyle Walker on the right-hand side of the back four.

And the Liverpool defender believes the competition for places such as that between him and his fellow right-back is a big positive for England.

"I was pleased with my performance," he said. "The manager made changes and we all came in and did well.

"We dominated the game from start to finish. It was a bit frustrating that we didn't get the goal which would have won us the game.

"[Walker has] done really well, all of the starting line-up that's been playing have done well and this was a chance for those coming in to show the manager that they should be in the team.

"It's good that everyone is fighting for positions, it makes the team healthy and makes everyone push harder."

The draw with Slovakia ensured England finished second behind Wales in Group B, meaning they must make the 600-mile trek to Nice for their first knockout fixture.

Claiming top spot would have resulted in a short hop over to Paris instead, but Clyne is unconcerned by any extra travel.

"I suppose that would have been ideal for us to play more locally but I think it'll be exactly the same feeling if we play further away," he added.

"We've got one job to do and that's to win the game and that's it."
