Kolo Toure is ready for the task of keeping out Villarreal if Jürgen Klopp selects the No.4 at centre-back for the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday.

The Ivorian played 90 minutes at the weekend as a second-half comeback saw Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United hold Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

Next up for the Reds is a trip to Spain later this week, with El Madrigal the venue for the opening match of a two-legged contest with La Liga’s fourth-placed side.

Toure would like the chance to be involved again and is sure the players available to Klopp can step up in the battle for a place in next month’s final.

He said: “If they call me up, of course I will be really happy. I think I did some good things [against Newcastle]. I need to recover and I’ll be ready mentally.

“Martin Skrtel is there as well and Lucas [Leiva] can play at the back too. It is up to the manager.

“For me, the most important thing is the club, the team. It is going to be a big two games and you need to do your best for the club.

“We’re without a few good players and it’s tough times when your mates are out but we have shown the strength of the squad.”
