Mamadou Sakho has revealed that his celebration with Kolo Toure after scoring for Liverpool against Everton on Wednesday evening was down to his teammate's impressive precognitive powers.

The Frenchman ran straight to the hosts' bench after nodding in their second goal just before half-time in order to revel in his strike with his fellow defender.

And by way of explanation, Sakho told Liverpoolfc.com after the game: "Kolo told me this morning I would score again so that's why when I scored I thought of him and ran to celebrate with him."

Having lifted the lid on his celebration, the 26-year-old went on to praise the role of the fans in what was a remarkably one-sided Merseyside derby victory for Jürgen Klopp's men.

"It was a very, very good atmosphere, a very good result for us, and I think we deserved it because we played very well," he added.

"The 12th player was with us - the fans. It was a really good night for Liverpool."

The Anfield thrashing of the Toffees brought up Liverpool's fourth consecutive victory in all competitions - a run that also includes that famous comeback win over Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League.

But Sakho insists the Reds cannot get carried away even after earning the most momentous of results, with so much still at stake during the remaining games.

He explained: "When people start to speak about Liverpool beating Dortmund [etc], we need to stay calm, continue to work, and we will see.

"We need to stay focused for every game because this year is not finished and we need to work.

"We need to enjoy tonight but after [that] we need to stay focused because in football every game is different and we need a positive result in the next game."
