Liverpool did everything that boss Jürgen Klopp asked of them at Signal Iduna Park on Thursday night as they drew 1-1 with Borussia Dortmund, according to Adam Lallana.

The first leg of the huge Europa League quarter-final tie saw Divock Origi give the Reds a crucial away goal in the 37th minute.

Mats Hummels then equalised shortly after the break before Liverpool forced goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller into a number of important saves to keep the game level.

Lallana was pleased with the showing from the visitors but feels they could have taken more of an advantage into the Anfield return fixture.

"It was almost the perfect execution of his gameplan," Lallana told Goal. "If we’d won 1-0 or 2-1 it would have been massive, but we did very well in a tough test.

"A lot of energy was used, especially in the second half when they held onto the ball well. It was a big effort from us, but we also had some really good chances during the game.

"[Philippe] Coutinho had two shots saved, there was [Dejan] Lovren’s header and Divock could have got another on the night, but they’re a top team and I think we would have taken this result before the game.

"There’s maybe a little disappointment that we didn’t score again since we created some good openings, but they’re going to have to come at us at Anfield next week as they go after an away goal too and hopefully that will suit us well.

"We knew they’d be dominant, especially in possession but we were ready to pick off their mistakes and exploit them in behind."

Origi justified his place in the starting line-up with an impressive performance and a well-taken goal.

Lallana believes the Belgium international was a worthy name on the scoresheet in his 84-minute outing.

The midfielder added: "Divock was brilliant, especially on the counter-attack. He was really excellent and deserving of his goal, and we’d have loved for him to have got another.

"He worked hard and did exactly what the team needed from him."
