Robbie Fowler hopes Liverpool can take their recent good run of form into Thursday's huge Europa League clash with Manchester United.

The Reds have won back-to-back games in the past week by beating Manchester City and Crystal Palace in the Barclays Premier League.

And up next is United at Anfield in the first leg of the last-16 European tie, with Fowler excited for the occasion and hoping for a win.

However, he insists the players in red on the night have to keep their cool in a fixture renowned for its fierceness.

"I'm looking forward to it," the Scouser told Liverpoolfc.com. "It's a massive game. Both of us are not doing as well as we would have liked in the league but we're on a little bit of a roll at the minute so hopefully we'll take our current form and go into this game.

"I hope we come out victors because we deserve a good run. I'm sure United fans and people within the club will be saying the same things about them, but I want us to do well, I want all of our players to be at the top of their game. A few of the players have come out and said they owe the fans and they probably do, to be fair.

"But they've got to try and control the emotions because it is a big game, a big European game - probably the biggest game the Europa League has ever had.

"There are going to be all eyes on it, so the players do really need to control their emotions; we don't want silly cards or silly red cards because we want to be on top of our game with full-strength team."
