Emre Can has told his Liverpool teammates what to expect from Augsburg on Thursday night as the midfielder aims to continue a strong personal record against the Bundesliga side.

Like manager Jürgen Klopp, the No.23 made a return to Germany this afternoon as the Reds took a two-hour flight from Merseyside for the first leg of their Europa League tie.

Though Augsburg have been struggling in recent weeks and have yet to reach the heights of last season that saw them qualify for continental competition, the manager and his players are refusing to take the game lightly.

Can said at the pre-match press conference: “I told [my teammates] they’re a really good team, they are very strong and play together as a team.

“So it will be a real challenge tomorrow. We know they’ve got a very good, strong team, so we’re prepared for them.”

One reporter was keen to know how the 22-year-old fared against Augsburg during his time in the Bundesliga before switching to Anfield in the summer of 2014.

“I’ve got very good memories – I’ve played against them twice and we won both games, and I scored,” he responded.

The Germany international was on target for the Reds last weekend as Klopp’s charges thrashed Aston Villa 6-0 away from home in the Barclays Premier League.

And Can admitted he has been satisfied with his recent form, adding: “I think everything is going really well. I’m developing as a player and working very hard.”
